🥋 Why Bullying Is Not OK — Inside or Outside the Dojo

At KU Newcastle Karate, we are more than a place to train. We are a community built on respect, teamwork, and looking after one another. Every student who steps onto the mats becomes part of that community — and with that comes the responsibility to treat others with kindness and integrity.
🌱 The Impact of Bullying
Bullying isn’t “just kids being kids.” It can cause real and lasting harm. For anyone on the receiving end, bullying can lead to:
Loss of confidence
Anxiety or fear
Feeling isolated or unwelcome
Difficulty concentrating at school
Long‑term emotional stress
These effects go against everything karate teaches. Our goal is to build strong, confident, resilient young people — not to see anyone diminished by the actions of another.
🥋 Our Dojo Values: The Standard We Live By
Karate is not just about kicks and punches. It’s about character. Every class begins and ends with a bow, a reminder of the values we uphold:
Respect
We show respect through our words and actions. Speaking kindly, treating others fairly, and valuing each person’s right to feel safe are essential.
Humility
Strength is never a tool for putting others down. Humility means recognising that we are all learning and that no one is above anyone else.
Teamwork
We grow together. Training partners help us improve, and trust is essential. Bullying breaks that trust and weakens the whole group.
Looking After Each Other
A dojo is a family. We support one another, encourage one another, and step in when someone needs help. This responsibility doesn’t end when class finishes — it extends to school, home, and online spaces.

🌟 What We Expect From Every Student
Being part of our dojo means choosing to be someone who lifts others up. We encourage all students to:
Stand against bullying
Include others
Speak up if something isn’t right
Treat fellow students with kindness everywhere, not just on the mats
Karate students are leaders. Their behaviour sets an example for others.
🧭 Beyond the Dojo Walls
The lessons learned in karate are meant to be lived. Respect, humility, teamwork, and care for others should guide how students behave:
At school
With friends
Online
At home
In the wider community
A true martial artist shows integrity in every environment.

Bullying is not OK — ever. Our dojo remains committed to being a safe, supportive, and empowering place for all students. When we uphold our values, we create a culture where everyone can grow with confidence and feel proud to be part of the KU Newcastle family.
