Koryu Uchinadi, taught at KU Newcastle, is a functional and practical application-based martial art suitable for all ages. Unlike Taekwondo, which emphasises high, fast kicks and is well-known for its competitive sport aspects, Koryu Uchinadi focuses on practical self-defence techniques derived from classical kata. Koryu Uchinadi teaches students how to effectively handle real-life conflict through application drills, joint locks, grappling, and striking, making it highly versatile and comprehensive. So, while Taekwondo might be more oriented towards sport and competitions, Koryu Uchinadi provides a more holistic approach to self-defense that is tailored for real-world situations.
